Our hearts are with all of those affected by the assassination of Minnesota State Representative Melissa Hortman and her husband and the shooting of State Senator John Hoffman and his wife.
Following this horrific crime, the Texas Department of Public Safety issued warnings of credible threats to Texas legislators attending political demonstrations this weekend.
We cannot allow the political violence that shook the country to spread to the Lone Star State. You can watch our Executive Director’s joint statement with Michael Cargill, a gun rights activist, gun dealer, and firearms instructor, denouncing violence and encouraging safe discourse in Texas.
We may come from opposite sides of the debate over Texas gun policy, but there is one thing we agree on: Political violence is not the answer.
We MUST come together and denounce all political violence.
Today we are grieving for the victims in Minnesota and recommitting to action to prevent further tragedy and violence.
