Texas Gun Sense (TGS) seeks a motivated and community-minded Advocacy & Outreach Coordinator to manage and support core engagement programs that drive our mission forward. This part-time position will work approximately 20 hours per week, report to the Communications Manager and Executive Director, and will work closely with staff, coalition partners, and volunteers to advance youth, gun owner and healthcare-focused advocacy, strengthen grassroots partnerships, and represent TGS in community and coalition spaces.

About Texas Gun Sense:

Founded in the wake of the Sandy Hook school shooting, the mission of Texas Gun Sense is to prevent gun violence and other gun tragedies in Texas through education, partnerships, and policy change. As a 501(c)(3) organization, we bring coalition partners together, shape narratives around gun safety, and advocate for common-sense gun policies that save lives.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Program Management & Coordination
      • Lead coordination of TGS’ key engagement programs:
        • TGS Rising Leaders (youth leadership and advocacy)
        • Texas Healthcare Partners for Gun Sense (healthcare professional engagement)
        • Gun Owners for Gun Safety Coalition
      • Support the implementation of program goals and timelines.
      • Manage outreach, communications, and tracking for program participants.
  • Community Engagement & Advocacy
      • Represent TGS at tabling events, community meetings, and advocacy opportunities.
      • Cultivate key partnerships through direct outreach and relationship building.
      • Participate in virtual and in-person meetings with staff, partners, and volunteers.
      • Support gun violence prevention (GVP) coalition meetings and coordinate with statewide partners.
      • Advocacy support during Texas legislative sessions (mobilizing supporters, managing volunteers, etc.)
  • Events Support
      • Plan virtual and in-person events related to managed programs with support from the TGS team (e.g., webinars, community forums, stakeholder meetings, Advocacy Day).
      • Assist the Communications Manager with the planning and logistics of the annual Youth Summit for TGS Rising Leaders.

Qualifications:

  • 1-3 years of experience in program coordination, community outreach, or advocacy.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and collaborate across teams.
  • Comfort with public speaking and representing a nonprofit in professional settings.
  • Commitment to gun violence prevention and equity-driven engagement work.

Compensation:

This salary for this position is $26,000 per year with paid time off and sick leave.

This position is available to candidates who reside in Austin or the surrounding area.
