Panelists:

Carolyn Thomas survived a near fatal shooting at point blank range in 2003. Carolyn lost 80% of her facial features in the tragedy and was left blind in her right eye. She courageously shares her experiences and works to educate others about the dangers of abusive relationships.

Jane Winter is an advocate and gun violence survivor. In 2010, her 21-year-old son, Kelsey, died by gun suicide while attending the University of Houston, prompting her to join forces with Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, the grassroots arm of Everytown for Gun Safety.

Dr. Angel Durr’s mother was taken from her family in 2021 by a senseless and preventable act of gun violence. She refuses to let her mother’s death be in vain and fights for stricter Texas gun legislation to prevent other families from experiencing the same heartbreak.

Panel Moderator: Lori Haas, Advocacy Manager at Johns Hopkins University Center for Gun Violence Solutions. Lori is also a survivor of gun violence.

Tentative Special Guest: Gregory Jackson, Deputy Director of the White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention and a survivor of gun violence.

This event is part of Texas Gun Sense’s ongoing webinar series: Education to End Gun Violence

This series brings together the many voices of the gun violence prevention movement in Texas to inform, discuss, and connect with other advocates. These events examine a variety of perspectives and ideas in order to chart a course for change.
