On Saturday, a gunman armed with an AR-style rifle murdered at least 8 people and injured at least 7, including a 5-year-old child, at an outdoor outlet mall in Allen, Texas, a Dallas suburb.
Once again, a Texas community has experienced senseless gun violence and unspeakable trauma.
The Gun Violence Archive has counted more than 200 mass shootings in the United States this year. The Allen, Texas shooting was the 199th of 2023.
“It’s unbearable to continue to witness our fellow Texans being gunned down,” said Nicole Golden, Texas Gun Sense Executive Director. “There are real solutions to prevent gun violence that are being ignored by our policymakers. We cannot afford to play political games while people are dying. The Texas Legislature still has time to stop this.”
Tomorrow, Monday, May 8th, is the last day for gun safety bills in Texas to get a vote out of committee and move closer to a floor vote.
Advocates will be rallying at the Capitol at 9:00 AM Monday.
