Austin, TX — Today, more than 35 local, state, and national organizations have joined a sign-on letter urging members of the Texas Legislature to vote NO on House Bill 1794 – a dangerous bill that would allow individuals to carry concealed firearms in polling places across the state.

HB 1794 would roll back long-standing protections that help ensure voters can cast their ballots free from intimidation or fear.

“This proposal directly threatens the integrity and safety of our elections,” said Nicole Golden, Executive Director of Texas Gun Sense. “Polling places must be free from coercion and fear. Introducing firearms puts voters, poll workers, and volunteers at risk.”

The U.S. Supreme Court has historically upheld prohibitions on guns in sensitive spaces like polling places, schools, and courthouses. HB 1794 undermines that principle.

The Texas Coalition to Prevent Gun Violence and its partners are calling on lawmakers to reject this bill and instead pursue common sense measures that protect public safety in the places Texans should feel secure.
