Key Committee Hearing Alert

April 11, 2025

On Monday, April 14, 2025, the Texas House Homeland Security, Public Safety & Veterans’ Affairs Committee will hold a hearing on 17 dangerous gun bills designed to roll back safety laws, silence communities, and put more guns in more places. This is a critical moment. We need to pack the room with Texans who care about safety—not politics.

Join us in person at the Capitol and sign up to testify against these dangerous bills. Your presence matters—even if you don’t speak.

Here are a few of the worst bills we’re asking folks to speak on:

  • HB 2470 would allow 18 to 20 year-olds to carry handguns, licensed or unlicensed.
  • HB 2771 would significantly narrow the list of felonies that prohibit firearm possession.
  • HB 1794 would allow guns in polling places.
  • HB 4201 would broadly allow firearm carry for LTC holders in sensitive places, including schools.
  • HB 259 would legalize short-barrel firearms.

Date: Monday, April 14, 2025

Recommended language:

I am writing today to express my strong opposition to this bill, which I believe will make our communities less safe and put more Texans at risk of gun violence.

Texas already has some of the weakest gun laws in the country, and yet we continue to see proposals that would further roll back even basic safety measures. Instead of making it easier to carry guns in more places or weakening enforcement, we should be focused on proven solutions—like safe storage, raising the age to purchase semi-automatic rifles, and keeping guns out of the hands of people who pose a danger to themselves or others.

As a concerned Texan, I urge you to reject this harmful legislation. The vast majority of Texans support common-sense gun safety laws. We deserve to live in communities where we feel safe—not ones where gun violence is treated as inevitable.

Please vote NO on any bills that would weaken existing gun safety laws or put more guns into sensitive spaces.

Thank you for considering my perspective.

We know this is a tough political climate. But your voice matters—and it’s exactly what they need to hear.

Thank you for standing with us,
